Overseas employers scan hundreds of CVs. A clear, honest resume that shows your trade, experience and certificates gets you shortlisted faster. Here is how to build one.
Keep it short and clear
One to two pages is enough. Use simple English, clear headings and plain formatting. Avoid long paragraphs — employers want to see your skill and experience at a glance.
What to include
- Contact details — name (as per passport), phone/WhatsApp, email, city
- Passport status — number, validity, ECR/ECNR (see our ECR guide)
- Trade / job title — e.g. "6G Welder", "Staff Nurse", "Heavy Driver"
- Work experience — company, role, years, country (most recent first)
- Certificates & licences — ITI, diploma, trade test, driving licence, council registration
- Languages and any Gulf/overseas experience
Highlight your skills and certificates
Skilled roles are selected on proof. List your trade test results, safety certificates and specific machines or systems you have worked on. Numbers help — years of experience, projects, team size.
Add a short working video
Tip: For trades like welding, electrical, driving or cooking, a 30–60 second working video of you doing the job often gets you selected faster than the CV alone.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Spelling your name differently from your passport
- Fake experience or certificates — these get caught at trade tests
- Missing contact number or an inactive WhatsApp
- Photos or details that do not match your documents
