The single biggest cause of visa delays is missing or unattested paperwork. If you keep a complete, correct document file ready, your overseas job can move in weeks instead of months. Here is everything an Indian candidate should have in order.
1. Core identity documents
- Passport — valid for at least 6 months (ideally 1 year+), clear front and back pages
- Aadhaar card and PAN card
- Recent photographs — white background, to the destination country's exact size (many Gulf visas need 51mm × 51mm)
2. Education & skill certificates
- 10th / 12th mark sheets and certificates
- Degree, Diploma or ITI certificate (for skilled trades)
- Trade test / skill certificates (welding, electrical, driving licence, nursing council registration, etc.)
Attestation matters: For most Gulf jobs, education and trade certificates must be attested or apostilled — verified by the issuing state, the MEA, and the destination embassy. This takes time, so begin as soon as you have an offer.
3. Work experience proof
- Experience / relieving letters from previous employers
- An updated resume listing your trade, years of experience and countries worked
- Any reference letters that show your skill level
4. Health & police clearance
- GAMCA / Wafid medical fitness certificate (done at an approved centre)
- Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) — required by several countries and employers
- Vaccination records where the destination country requires them
5. Job & visa documents
- Signed offer / demand letter from the employer
- Employment contract (read salary, hours, duration and benefits carefully)
- Work permit / visa copy once issued
- Emigration clearance via eMigrate for ECR passport holders travelling to ECR countries
Quick pre-departure checklist
Before you fly, make sure you carry originals plus at least two photocopy sets of: passport, visa, offer letter, medical certificate, PCC, educational and trade certificates, and passport photos. Keep digital scans on your phone and email too.
